On 27 September 2024, the RECONMATIC partner, Czech Technical University in Prague, coordinated the annual Czech Researchers' Night, welcoming 1,288 visitors. Initiated by the European Commission in 2005, this event's mission is to showcase science as fascinating and accessible, inviting the public to experience the impact and excitement of scientific discovery. Each year, universities, research centres, and institutions open their doors to provide an immersive experience featuring guided tours, interactive workshops, live experiments, presentations, and performances.
This year’s theme, "Transformation," highlighted the evolving role of science and technology, reflecting the continuous changes in nature and the impact of innovation on society.
Highlights of the Czech Researchers' Night 2024
Czech Technical University in Prague alongside other faculties and the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics, presented an exciting program celebrating this year's "Transformation" theme, tailored to both adults and children. More information can be found here.
The RECONMATIC project offered the public a unique opportunity to see how old structures and materials can be transformed into innovative solutions through recycling and digital technology.
In the faculty atrium, the exhibition, "How has the construction industry changed over time?", offered insights into the development of construction practices and sustainability:
Energy Transformation for Buildings: Visitors learned about the evolution of energy use in buildings and future-oriented sustainable practices.
Preserving History: Insights on the methods used to restore historic structures like bunkers.
Innovative Building Materials: An opportunity to examine advanced materials under a microscope, showcasing improvements in construction quality.
Harmony of Space, Light, and Human Comfort: Demonstrations highlighted the significance of design harmony for well-being in built spaces.

Lectures by RECONMATIC Experts
Representing RECONMATIC, Jan Valentin and Václav Nežerka delivered two engaging lectures that showcased pioneering processes in civil engineering.
The Transformation of a Road to a Road
In this session, Václav Nežerka and Jan Valentin introduced sustainable techniques in infrastructure, demonstrating how recycled asphalt from old roadways can create durable new surfaces, promoting waste reduction and environmental consciousness in road construction.
The Transformation of a Building Scan into a Digital Twin
This lecture explored the concept of digital twins in building maintenance. By converting building scans into detailed digital replicas, the presenters showed advancements in maintenance, renovation, and lifecycle management, highlighting the benefits of digital twins for accurate modeling and efficient renovation planning.
Stay tuned for more updates on our activities. More Open Day events are planned in the Spring of 2025 and plans are already in place for the CTU team to participate in the Researchers' Night in Prague in 2025, where the RECONMATIC project's further advancements will be spotlighted.
